FAQs

Got a question? Mr. Mowgli has the answer!

  • Not to worry. Most pet dogs are not expertly trained movie stars! The sessions are typically just dogs being dogs. I have loads of patience and all kinds of tricks to coax them into position and grab their attention, even if it’s just for a split second. That’s all it takes to capture an image. This is one of the benefits of hiring a pet-specific photographer!

  • Absolutely! I will let you in on a little secret: 95% of the dogs I photograph are on leash. In fact, it is often preferable, especially if your dog is easily distracted. It may also be necessary if we are in an urban area and are required to follow local leash laws. Thanks to the wizardry of Photoshop, leashes will be removed from most final images.

  • Photoshop does have its limitations. Bulky harnesses hide so much of the dog’s chest that it can be very challenging to accurately rebuild the pixels in post-production. Gentle leaders can leave weird shadows or pull on the dog’s skin, so those can be a challenge also. If your dog uses either of these for walking, I recommend using it while walking to the location, and then switching to a flat collar for the actual session.

  • I completely understand, the world can be a scary place. If your dog is nervous or reactive, I can choose a location that suits his temperament. I have a few out-of-the-way location ideas that have very little dog or people traffic, or we can rent a private location for a small fee. You should also know that I have a lot of experience dealing with reactive dogs so rest assured that I will be able to read your pet well and do what I can to make them feel as comfortable as possible.

  • All of them. They are an important part of your family and I want them all to be included. Even if I need to do some fancy Photoshop work to get a group shot, I will make it happen.

  • Yes! Photography is all about understanding light and how it affects colour. Have a look at the black dogs in my portfolio for some examples.

  • I specialize in photographing the canine variety but am happy to do a session with another pet under special circumstances.

  • The most magical light for photography happens during “magic hour”, which happens twice per day. Most sessions are scheduled during the first few hours after sunrise and the last few before sunset. Therefore, session times will change depending on the time of year. However, certain locations – such as urban areas that bustle with activity during the evening – are better suited for morning sessions. If there are clouds in the forecast, any time of day will work.

  • I will do a session in all types of weather, but if it is raining or snowing very heavily or too hot/cold, I will happily reschedule.

  • You are welcome to reschedule your session once without penalty if you notify me one week or more prior to originally scheduled date.

  • Of course! Although my sessions are dog-centric, you are welcome to jump in for a few images. However, if you are looking for a family-session that includes you dog, I recommend seeking the services of a photographer that specializes in families who allows pets to be included.

  • In the interest of minimizing distractions, I do ask that only dog parents attend the session and it is best to leave the little humans at home. If you are interested in holding a session with your dog’s best bud or extended family, I’d be happy to put together a custom quote.

  • I am willing to travel anywhere a session may take me. Any place within 100km from my studio in Barrie will be done at no extra cost. If you have a favourite location that is not in this area, please contact me directly for a travel quote.

  • I currently accept a variety of payment options: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Interac Debit, Apple Pay, Google Pay, e-transfer, or cash.

  • I understand that sometimes it’s difficult to stick to a budget sometimes, so if there are images that you must have, we can discuss splitting your total over three or four interest-free payments.

  • I have a few favourite spots that produce wonderful images but if you and your pal have a favourite place, I can certainly check it out! However, backyards are typically NOT ideal.
