A Collie Extravaganza

On a beautiful warm and sunny summer day in the woods of Caledon, Ontario, a remarkable gathering of Collies came together. This exclusive event allowed me to witness the unique charm and undeniable camaraderie that defines these magnificent dogs.

The wooded private residence complete with swimming hole was the perfect place for all the furry Collies from one local breeder, “Thistle Brae Collies”, and a few non-collie siblings (we don’t discriminate), to meet up with their old littermates and make some new friends.

I attended as a plus one with a close friend of mine who shares her life with two Collies from this local breeder. “Matilda” and “Freya” are two gems I have had the pleasure of spending a considerable amount of time with over the past few years. They are sweet, affectionate, and a little nuts! I say that with the utmost adoration.

Just like the famous “Lassie” from the 1950’s tv show, the Collie breed is recognized for intelligence, loyalty, and being famously fond of children. They come in two varieties: the “rough” coat - with a long flowing mane and feathered tail, and the “smooth” coat - with sleek short fur.

These pups are highly trainable and excel in a variety of canine sports and activities, like obedience, agility, and herding trials. Originating in the highland regions of Scotland in the 18th century, Collies were bred to assist the shepherd with herding livestock. They are playful, gentle, and hard-working.

With the leashes off, Collies of all shapes, colours, and sizes frolicked in the sun, tails in overdrive. The picnic was more than just an event. It was a celebration of the incredible bond between humans and their Collie companions.

There were also some newcomers to the world. A few puppies joined the festivities ready to go to their forever home in just a few short weeks.

As a dog photographer, it’s occasions like these that remind me of the magic that unfolds when we allow our pets to be exactly who they are…cherished members of our families.

Stay tuned for more adventures!!

And in the mean time….have a little nap.
